overtly sentimental

It had been a long time since he had seen the ocean. He could still vividly recall the waves. Coming, going, rolling past, and pulling at his legs as he stood in the frigid water. As far out as he could see there was nothing but water. He felt that if he just let go he could be lost forever. He would not be the little orphan that the other monks mocked at the temple, he could be anyone, his master could really be the father that he longed for, he could have a real past, and a future that he could see. He could be cleansed of this life and never have to return.
He stood there with his master watching the sun rise over the water, pink and dark against the backdrop of fading night. The colors shifting higher and higher reaching across the vast expanse toward where he stood, bathing his feet, now gold to bright shining day. And the water sparkled and danced in the freshness of the new sun.
“It is said that the ocean can cleanse the mind setting it free on the next wave out, if you let it. There is strength in letting go Kouryu, remember that,” his master had said staring out across the ocean, “be forever changing as the sea and be strong, you must be strong.”
He stood wondering what his master had to let go of, as he looked at the sun pouring though his master hair, his usual contented smile on his lips, and Kouryu longed to feel that smile on his own lips, what was that kind of contentment: an orange paper airplane soaring across a perfect blue sky or the ocean at dawn, glowing with new beginnings?
Looking back out across the water, endless, ever moving, forever changing, and strong enough to wash away the past of hundreds of souls, it danced beautifully under a yellow glowing orb, and Kouryu considered his master’s words. Then without another thought he let out all of his breath and in letting go found himself at peace, drifting out forever on the next wave.

Sanzo sat in the jeep with his head back looking up at the sky, a perfect blue with waves of clouds dancing in the sunlight, and smiled hearing again his master’s words, and again loosing himself in the endless waves. Contented.
“Sanzo is everything ok,” Hakkai asked from the driver’s seat.
Sanzo just hummed a response still smiling that odd little smile.
Hakkai looked up at the sky and back at Sanzo, “what are you thinking about?”
Sanzo looked over at Hakkai still smiling, then back at the sky, “Waves,” he said.
