I got a result on the laptop. They gave me a £900 Sony Vaio to replace my £700 own brand machine. However, not to sound like my diamond shoes are pinching me, as [livejournal.com profile] gloria1 would put it, I loved my old one because it was very small indeed and this one is a little bit bigger than I wanted.

I have only looked at it so far. It's pretty and silvery and very slim. I suppose I should try making it go.

I have no idea how you're supposed to pronounce Vaio - I'm guessing it's something like Vi-Oh, but Sony might have other ideas. eta rant: Like the Ford Ka, which I always hated saying then found out years later was it was supposed to be said KayAy anyway.

Ooh, yes, a Mac, wasn't it? Good luck with the change - all I know is that they have big pop-up images of programs along the bottom.

Oooh, shiny new computer!

I know what you mean about the pleasures of something teeny though - everything's better when it's smaller :-) Does it do anything particularly magical?

I'm not sure about magical, but it's very very shiny.

It goes very fast and the screen is amazingly sharp, it has something called Ultra-Blak! or some silly name.

Whee!

Also, KayAy? But I've been driving one for years and calling it the worng name! Oh, the shame!

Also, will be emailing you about travel shortly. When I have controlled the urge to leap across the Irish Sea right now and strangle my brother. Will be explaining all and flinging self on your mercy . . .

I impulse purchased a Vaio few months ago. It was after nine months of dithering about needing a laptop that wasn’t held together with gaffa tape so perhaps not really an impulse. But I didn’t mean to get one when I set out.

First thoughts on unpacking it were “Ooh. Shiny.” rapidly followed by “Oh! Fingerprints.” and then “&*^%ing XP. Where have they put [insert feature of your choice here]”

We are now inseparable.

Well, I'm sure you love it once you start fondling and giving it a test ride. XD

And I didn't know they said KayAy. Her in Germany, it's pronounced Ford Kah (or however you would explain the phonetics.)

It's pronounced Kay Ay? I thought they were making fun of people with Boston accents... I think it's funnier that way.

Which Vaio model? I am a big fan of the littlest model, the PCG-C1, about 2 lbs and full-featured but half the size of the smallest notebook, and have owned 3 of them over the years.

Its the FS31M, I think, so a mid range sort of one, and thought it's slim it's not that small and it weighs 2.9kg rather than 2.1 like my old one. Oh well... it was free, essentially.
