Nature nurture by devikun Hakkai/Gojyo - a very good take on youkai Hakkai.

Most youkai Hakkai stories I've read, in fact maybe all, have him not doing anything very much when his limiters come off, by which I mean not turning into an unhinged killing machine, and I can fully see the reasoning for this. The two times he does take them off, he *does* become very violent, but only for the purposes of protection and rescue, leaving the people he loves unharmed. I just wonder how much Hakkai knows about his youkai self. Either he really is a danger to everyone with his limiters off, or he just thinks he is, which is very sad. He's scared he might hurt his friends, but he never does, or at least hasn't yet. I did originally mean to make some sort of point at the end of this but I've forgotten it. I should probably get some coffee down me.

Sanzo/Gojyo comic strip - by uberdomkumagoro. Not worksafe, but very very funny. You have the comm friended to see it.

Regarding Youkkai *ahem*, the evidence supporting him being a merciless indiscriminate killer is - well, I don't think he DOES. I mean, in his and Goijyo's Burial arc (ERNT ERNT SPOILER ALERT READ NO FURTHER IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILT OUT THE WAZOO!), Gojyo's lying on the floor bondaged while Youkkai's beating the crap out of the yakuza. He's a sitting duck. An easy target..

Hakkai doesn't touch him.

Ditto with Goku in Kami's Magical Bondage Gourd. Goku is right there, and an instinct-driven killer would have chased him down and tried to mangle him. The outcome of THAT fight um...that's anyone's guess :D;

I think Hakkai is afraid - nay, he's TERRIFIED he might hurt his friends by mistake. He perceives himself as a very dangerous person, and he works exceptionally hard to keep himself in check.

On top of that, I think he was being honest when {ACK MORE BURIAL SPOILERS!!} he tells Banji that he hates Youkai - he says he hates what they're capable of power-wise, but I think he ends up pointing out that he hates himself - part of it being his youkai form must be a lovely reminder of his failure to Kanan, and part of it being that he considers having become youkai to be his punishment from the Sanbutsushin.

So in conclusion: Seriously, get a hug!

Are you familiar with scribblemoose's fic, Openings (http://www.livejournal.com/users/scribblemoose/491806.html)? It may not contain much as far as Hakkai introspection on the nature of his 'youkai-ness', but it's youkai!sex and I can't help but spam it at any opportunity!

Oh, yes, I love that story. I think I've worn the words away by reading it too much ;) It's one of my absolute favourite youkai Hakkai stories.
