Ah, Gaywyck, probably the most shamelessly purple-tinged gay gothic romance I have ever read. Um, okay, the only one. It really is incredibly fabulous and it makes me squeak with pleasure at least every few pages.

I recorded these small snippets particularly for [livejournal.com profile] emungere, because she asked, and also she totally unexpectedly bought me Fairies and fairy stories: a history!!! It came this morning. ♥♥♥♥

To set the scene briefly: Robert Whyte, our troubled young hero, has spurned a career in law and has traveled to Gaywyck estate on Long Island, which is home to the fabulously wealthy Gaylord clan, of which Donough Gaylord is the sole remaining (very hot and very rich) member. Robert has been employed as the librarian.

Exhausted from the journey and the nervous excitement, Robert suffered from fever dreams for three days. This part begins the morning of his awakening, where he is has been tended by Brian the beautiful but mute pastry chef (!!), Donough Gaylord himself, and Denvers, Donough's perculiar middle aged ex-tutor who still lives at Gaywyck.

This next part takes place several days later, soon after an incident where a mystety person stole Robert's clothing during a midnight swim and left a dead bird in their place. On this hot afternoon, during another naked swim, Robert discovers a secret cave...
