I'm back in Reading. The train fairies were good to us and it only took about 3 hrs.
squee_fest_uk taught me many things this year: jpop bands have junior divisions; Captain Jack has slept with any one you care to name; watching ageing boy bands dancing is sweetly hilarious; not all pudding is tasty; everybody loves Gojyo; FAKE is really a bit scary; it is possible for drunk fangirls to paint toenails at 2am without spilling any; getting in and out of a shiny red sports car turns out not to be as glamourous as I thought it would be, for example when you get your leg trapped in the bucket seats; X-Kai manga is really really bad! Petshop of Horrors anime is even creepier than the manga, wow.
new_kate gave me a Russian TV version of Sherlock Holmes - it's beautiful. I have such a lot of love for Russian Watson - he gets so angry when Holmes gets engaged to the housemaid in the adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton that he storms off to his room, and then Holmes puts his arm round him and eventually makes him giggle in a highly charming way. They have a beautiful friendship - reallly watching this gave me a new perspective on them and their odd and intense domesticity. I also love that all the sets and scenery are almost but not quite English-looking. Holmes's mouse-coloured dressing gown is perfect.
