Louise's mind map
Sep. 12th, 2004 02:55 pmSome clever person has worked out a pictorial way to present the interrelationships within your friends list, called a mind map. People are grouped on the map according to their friendship networks, ie, the number of mutual friends they have.
The mind map is behind a cut as it's fairly large.
( Louise's mind map )
It works by finding groups of people who all list each other as friends. The bigger the names on the map, the more mutual friends you have with them and they have with each other. I've marked on mine the main interrelationships that I can see, and in fact I think part of the map's attraction is that it lets you create your own connections between your friends. For example, I've identified the following groups on my mind map (and have coloured the areas), biggest first:
The people I've grouped together might not necessarily group themselves together, although I think some of them on here would definitely understand the connections I've made.

- Lilac in centre=very active, well known Snape slashers, (the large names in the centre, apart from mine-- mine is there as it's the 'seed').
- Plum=HP fen
- Green at bottom of map=Good Omens fen,
- Blue at bottom=people who write for small obscure lit-based fandoms, (crosses over with GO fen considerably)
- Paler green at bottom=UK contingent of small obscure fen
- Yellow at top of map=Random groups that I can't make any connections between
- Red to left=People I first knew/read through LotR fandom
- Orange to left=People I met at Connotations
- Pale lilac in centre=my first ever LJ friends (a sub-groups of Snape slashers),
- Purple area overlaying green at bottom=A small group of fen who I think of as being intellectual and politcal (this group is a subgroup of 'small obscure lit-based fandoms', but not all of them fit into that category)
- Pink in centre=Sydney slashers, (also a sub-group of Snape slashers)
- Three people who I can't fit into any group, although may loosely be called GO fen.
The people I've grouped together might not necessarily group themselves together, although I think some of them on here would definitely understand the connections I've made.
