M and me went to Oxford today. I meant to look in at the Botanical Gardens but we spent too long in Borders drooling over nice books. I managed to buy the 'Once More With Feeling' Buffy cd, which they refuse to sell in Reading, and I also got the book that the film Gangs of New York was based on, called, too, Gangs of New York. It's going to be my first train book. I stopped myself with extreme restraint from buying anything else, although 'Bloodfeud', a searing rollercoaster of a book about our anglo-saxon history, and 'Bend Sinister' (billed as the 'Gay Times Book of Disturbing Stories') nearly broke me.

M looked at me funny when I showed him the set of Buffy Top Trumps that I bought sneakily. Well, they were only cheap and anyway, what does he know? I'm going to force him to play. I can't believe that they gave Riley a higher intelligence score than Buffy though.

In this week's episode the Philistines have stolen the ark of the covenant:

5:9 And it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of the LORD was against the city with a very great destruction: and he smote the men of the city, both small and great, and they had emerods in their secret parts.

5:12 And the men that died not were smitten with the emerods: and the cry of the city went up to heaven. (I just bet it did)

6:4 Then said they, What shall be the trespass offering which we shall return to him? They answered, Five golden emerods, and five golden mice, according to the number of the lords of the Philistines: for one plague was on you all, and on your lords.

Wow. What sort of deity would want five golden haemorroids? And how would you cast them? The 'lost haemorroid' method?
