The Parental Units
May. 12th, 2003 01:16 pmMy mum is funny. She calls B&Q (the enormous DIY chain), B&Q-it. That ad campaign from 10 years ago obviously ploughed a deep trench in her psyche. 'You can do it when you B&Q it'. Or she may be confusing it with Do-it-all, (another enormous chain). At long last dad is buying her some new kitchen units, in 'medium oak'. It's no exaggeration to say that the kitchen units argument has gone on for decades, and I was almost in need of a stiff brandy to get over the shock of dad actually giving in. Stubborn just does not do my dad justice. They delivered more plants as well, so Sunday was partly taken up by yet more digging, when I wasn't getting on with my booze fest story.
I finished 'Neverwhere' by Neil Gaiman' last night, and went to sleep with a smile on my face. I loved it, I have to say. Croup and Vandemar-what an amazing pair of creations. Despite the squalor, pain and general awfulness, the book has a strange, gentle quality that I really liked.
