Owl feathers are very soft, softer than ordinary bird feathers. When you stroke them they are frictionless, as though you're touching thin air. They have hundreds of tiny hairs covering the surface of each feather, like fur. The hairs help reduce the noise of the owl's wingstroke, so it can swoop on its prey in silence.
