Jun. 21st, 2002 11:08 amI've never seen David Seaman look so distraught. He knew that it was his mistake that lost us the game. (For the big wide world of non-football fans: he let in a goal that he really shouldn't have). Everyone knows it, and at the end of the game, the weight of that was in his face. He looked carved out of stone. I could only guess at the enormity of the disappointment washing through him after the final whistle blew. Knowing it would likely be his last World Cup match ever (he's 38), and he'd made a crucial mistake. That moment will be what he's remembered for, after years of brilliant play. David 'safe-hands' Seaman.
