I can't be entirely sure, but the buffet car manager on my train this morning inserted the word penis into his announcement. It came quite early on, just after his name and before his stated commitment that he was going to be very happy if and when we came to order our coffee and hot bacon rolls. 'Good morning, my name is Stuart - penis- and I'll be very happy to serve you this morning.' He clearly said penis. But perhaps I imagined it? Did I have penises on the brain? Frankly, it's possible after the amount of smut I've read this weekend. On the other hand, I like to think it wasn't my subconcious, but a bet with the train driver: 'I bet you 50 quid you won't dare say penis tomorrow morning. Yeah? Watch me, pal!'

I didn't see anyone else react to the penis announcement, but that was because I was too busy hiding my head in my newspaper and giggling.

On a non-penis related note, this morning I saw the sunrise and it was very pretty - an bright pinky-orange like the inside of a Charentais melon, surrounded by a corona of gold.

Fan news: I spent nearly the whole of the weekend barring Friday night reading, watching or listening to Weiss Kreuz related things and am feeling drained yet vaguely euphoric. Although, and I blame you, [livejournal.com profile] mandragora1, I did spend some time in HMV on Saturday fondling the Hornblower box set.

Sigh. Back to work now.

The people who make those announcements all the time must get awfully bored. Somehow, I don't think you imagined it. When I flew up to the Gold Coast a couple of months ago, the steward made the usual announcement about turning off electrical devices while in flight "including mobile phones, laptop computers and washing machines." Yeah, definitely bored. *g*

I've just spent the weekend working my way through the Hornblower box set. Amazon UK has a 51% discount on it at the moment, you know...

Hee!

Ooh, 51%... *is very very tempted*

For a moment there that subject title worried me slightly :P All kinds of weird thoughts jumped through my mind :)

Mmmm, Hornblower! I think that's next on my list of DVD to be purchased and will be on my birthday list as well if I can resist spending money on DVD till then :P

*sniggers* Not *that* sort of penis announcement, although I'll try anything once... okay, shutting up now:D:D

I'd love to see Hornblower - apparently it's beyond slashy. I'm forcing myself not to buy it yet, or my bank manager will be very angry with me.

*giggles madly* Let me know how it was for you :) I'll try anything my friends suggest to me ;)

Yeah, as I just said to mandragora, I saw a few very short snippets on Belgian tv and hope that they will rebroadcast soon or I'll be forced to get them. Ioan Gruffud and slash, what else can I ask for :D

I blame you, mandragora1

*innocent look*

Who me? What did I do? It's not my fault if you're easy. Hornblower is a very good investment IMO. I blame the box set for my own downfall.

And the delectable Jamie Bamber, who plays Archie is in the new series of Battlestar Galactica starting this evening at 8pm on Sky One. Right opposite the gorgeous Ioan Gruffudd, who plays Horatio and is in Century City at 8pm this evening on the Sci-Fi Channel.

*head desk*

Thank god for mothers who can tape one channel whilst I tape the other. That reminds me, must go and ask her to do the taping.

BTW, I would watch Battlestar Galactica over Century City as the latter was cancelled after only 4 episodes. Battlestar Galactica the mini series was excellent and I'm very excited about the series. Especially as we in Britain get to see it three months before the North Americans. *g*

Gloat? Me? Never!

Argh! That does it, I'm moving to England :P
Did you see the original Battlestar Galactica? I saw Dirk Benedict on a con last weekend and he was quite annoyed by the fact that Starbuck was now a woman actually :P I heard several bad comments about the mini series, it's good to hear at least someone liked it :) I can imagine myself doing so as well :)
What's Century City about?

I did indeed see the original Battlestar Galactica and enjoyed it. But, I thought the new Galactica was far superior in drama, characterisation, plot, dialogue and acting. Of course, the special effects were better, but you'd expect that to be the case and I don't count special effects as paramount, having grown up on Dr Who and Blakes 7 et al. A good drama is a good drama, the special effects just make it more realistic.

I didn't have a problem with Girl!Starbuck as i thought it was interesting to have the trickster type portrayed as a woman. And Richard Hatch's Apollo, bless him was fine to look at but just a tad nobly dull. *g* IMO, of course. New Apollo (oh and Apollo and Starbuck are the new versions call signs, rather than their actual names which is markedly less cheesy) has all sorts of Interesting Issues and isn't Mr Nice Guy who is loved by everyone and has a fantastic relationship with his father Commander Adama. The new version is a stranger on board who has been estranged from his father for the past 2 years.

I sort of mourn the slashy Apollo/Starbuck possibilities, but then I think the relationship between the new versions is inherently potentially slashy, like some good het such as Mulder/Scully (before they actually got together) and John/Aeryn etc.

The Cylons are also much more interesting, as is Baltar, who is no longer a straightforward traitor. Etc.

So, overall I think I could become a great fan of the new version, whereas I was much more lukewarm about the original. I used to watch it, of course, but never thought it was as good as Classic Trek, for example, which to my mind was inherently dramatically superior.

Century City is a futuristic legal drama, set in 2030s LA. It deals with some interesting dilemmas that the law is going to have to face sooner or later, but I think is perhaps a bit slow-paced. That may be why it was cancelled so quickly.

Battlestar Galactica was my first obsession and Apollo was my first hero, so I must admit I'm a bit prejudiced about the new series. But seeing as my prejudices always vanish quickly, I can only hope they'll broadcast it quite soon over here as well.
Who plays Apollo, is that the guy who also plays in Hornblower?

And if Century City was cancelled after four episodes, I have no hope of it ever being broadcast here :( Would be nice to see lovely Ioan in something new though :(

The new Battlestar Galactica is due to be shown in the US and Canada in January 2005, if that's any good to you. Can't help if you live in Australia, or somewhere else in Europe or one of the myriad of places that aren't Britain and North America, though.

Who plays Apollo, is that the guy who also plays in Hornblower?

That's right. He was Archie Kennedy in Hornblower who with Horatio had just about *the* slashiest relationship (short of full-blown sex) that I've ever seen on TV. Slash heaven. *g*

It is nice seeing Ioan, although he's not as gorgeous in Century City (because of the character) as he was as Lancelot in Arthur. Sigh.

If January 2005 in the US, then it'll most likely be 2006 or so for us, the paaaain :( And I'm in the backlands of Belgium, Europe ;)

I need to see Hornblower, I caught very short parts of it on tv some time ago, but never paid much attention, it was at the wrong time in the evening and I never managed to watch it completely.

I liked Ioan's smile in 102 Dalmatians already and by lack of anything else with him on DVD (if you don't count the two seconds he appears in Black Hawk Down), I have to rewatch that :P

It's not my fault if you're easy.

*sniggers* I can't really argue with that, at least when it comes to slashy, angsty seafaring men in breeches.

Oh, why don't I have satellite TV? I'm a fool!

Oh dear, I hadn't realised that you're one of the people who don't, otherwise I wouldn't have gone on about Battlestar Galactica. It may come to terrestrial, though, so all is not lost.

Well, I once heard a woman over the PA at my local supermarket say "motherfucker to aisle 7". I didn't bat an eye, then mentally unscrambled it and realised she'd said "mop and bucket". I blame my friends and my workplace :-)

I'm going to have to agree. The annoucements (particularly early morning or late evening ones) can occaisionally get 'spiced up'.

I had a similiar experience this morning when the train was delayed by more than half an hour due to 'points failure'. The driver announces that due to "IR missing the point, this train will be delayed by a further ten minutes". =)

missing the point,

Heh. It's always a bonus when they display a sense of humour. Still, penis-- not really a joke, although having said that they are inherently amusing:D

That wasn't the Buffet Car Manager, actually. The announcement was made by the Buffet Car Manager's penis, so you heard correctly. 'Good morning, my name is Stuart's penis and I'll be very happy to serve you this morning.'

You all obviously missed an opportunity.

When I was in high school, we used to have a thing where anytime anyone said your name, you had to say 'penis'. I forget what exactly had to happen to you to cause this disease, but I have a feeling that poor Stuart was a victim.

It's nice to see that some things don't disappear with maturity.
