Today I'm going to attempt to buy a holiday. We got given a Thomas Cook holiday voucher for £100, so I'm going to go there and see what they can do for us. I haven't been abroad for about 6 six years, and before that I've only really been on holidays that someone else has organised, apart from the time we went to Ibiza - one of those cheap things where you don't know where you're staying. We got lucky and ended up in Ibiza Town, which is very pretty and historical. This time we've really got no idea where we want to go, other than somewhere warm, pretty, there's sea (see icon) and there's things to do. If anyone's got any holiday recs I'd be very grateful. I've been thinking of one of the Greek islands, or something like that.

France! Well, maybe not the Mediterranean - it's ferociously hot in the south. Normandy or Brittany might be nice, though. August is when almost all of France goes on holiday, so things could be busy.

Or Turkey - a friend of mine went two years ago and loved it. He said Istanbul was expensive, but places outside the city weren't. Here's a website offering bargain holidays (http://www.turkish-holiday.com/), to give some ideas.

Ooh, thanks for the link. We've managed to find a few cheapish deals elsewhere, but there don't seem to be any real bargains. The women in the travel agents give us kind, pitying looks when we say we can't spend more than £250. Apparently there's some sort of mad rush for holidays this year and hence no real bargains. We might go to Kos though - it's the cheapest thing we've found and it looks very pretty.

Being from Greece I have to say it might be a bit too packed and difficult to find tickets now, due to the Olympics. I'd avoid the islands on the Aegean and try the Ionian islands instead.

Thanks for the advice - from what I've seen, prices are pretty steep everywhere, but I've found a fairly cheap deal on Kos, which looks like an interesting sort of place.

I've always thought taking a vacation Crete would be wonderful - history AND beaches *G*.

I visited Crete once - it really is stunning, if you avoid the tourist traps. History and beaches- that about sums up a good holiday for me *g*

I don't have a rec per se, but if you choose Greece in September, and specifically Paralia Katerini (one of those resorts where everybody goes...) we really should meet, since I'm more likely to visit Greece than England :D
