A. Decaffienated and milky. Yeah, I'm a coffee wimp.
Q. When will I will I be famous?
A. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but someday, and someday soon.
Q. What did you want to be when you grew up?
A. I truly had no idea. I never had a big plan or an ambition. I sort of drifted along in a dream world. I always thought being a writer might be good, but never did anything to work towards that, like, er, writing.
Q. How long have you been in fandom?
A. Since September 2000. I can remember the day. I'd just finished my MA and had nothing much to do. I remembered reading an article in the Independent about Britslash. It occured to me that today I should look them up on the net and see what slash was. Nothing seemed to appeal to me until I read a Mulder/Krycek story by Sebastian. Mulder! He was gay! Oh my god, my world changed and I was addicted. It was brilliant and perfect and very very entertaining. It was also a way to escape from more difficult world outside. I got into HP fandom about 8 months later, in the middle of 2001. It was still quite small then, with a smattering of Snape stories.
Q. What is it you do all day? I know you're another academic type, but I have no idea what you do!
A. I work as the main reseacher for a funded project that helps small manufacturing companies in the West Midlands with design. I also have to write academic papers to prove that we're not just spending all the money on Gucci handbags and trips to the Caribbean.
Q. Where were you born?
A. In a small town called Long Eaton, which is just outside Nottingham, UK. Long Eaton isn't noted for much, but it was the birthplace of Dame Laura Knight, an artist. I lived there till I was 19. Our house is on the edge of town, not far from the river and a nature reserve. Long Eaton is quite poor - it used to make all its money from textiles and there are several enormous old mills dating from the mid 19thC. Now people mostly commute to Nottingham and Derby to work. I spent all the time I could as a teenager in Nottingham and I still adore the place.

Date: 2004-06-19 04:14 am (UTC)I know York very well, as I studied there for three years, at the small college behind the Minster. I adored it as a place to live. I used to live on South Parade, off Blossom St, which I think is my favourite ever address. It was right opposite the pictures!
