Holmesian jewellery
Mar. 4th, 2010 07:51 pmOh, so we saw Sherlock Holmes on Sunday night and I was made properly happy by it. Holmes is exactly mad enough - just the sort of person who you can imagine beating corpses with sticks to determine bruising patterns. Watson is dashing and surly and handsome, Irene Adler dresses up as a boy, randomly. Plus it had Mark Strong. Plus it was not ruined by Guy Ritchie's direction.
So today I made a Sherlock Holmes saucy bohemian ring! The quote is from The Adventure of the Dying Detective where Holmes anoints himself with vaseline and rouge in an attempt toseduce Watson make it appear as if he's dying in order to entrap a villain.

It's on an adjustable band and the glass bead is backed with an actual fragment of the page, then varnished. I think this is the paperback with the chicken choking picture on the front, come to think of it.

"But your appearance, Holmes--your ghastly face?"
"Three days of absolute fast does not improve one's beauty, Watson. For the rest, there is nothing which a sponge may not cure. With vaseline upon one's forehead, belladonna in one's eyes, rouge over the cheek-bones, and crusts of beeswax round one's lips, a very satisfying effect can be produced. "
The ring is in my shop, btw, here along with some others.
