I went to see a film tonight. Oh, you might've heard of it - Star Trek

So there was a lot of stuff that happens in it. In addition to that, I think I have a mega crush on Zachary Quinto I really loved it.

Also, if I understand it right, because of Captain Nemo, er, Nero going back in time and changing everything, this story is effectively a whole new Star Trek AU where from this point on the scriptwriters in future do not have to stick to the original series their lives are different from what they would've been.

I was worried about what they were going to do with all the chemistry of Kirk/Spock but between them I think the two actors got it going on pretty well. I liked the Spock/Uhura storyline too, even if I was cheesed off that Uhura got to do little more than run about in a mini skirt kissing Spock. Some kicking ass on her part would've been appreciated considering she was the main female character. (Also, miniskirts, yeesh)

I thought Winona Ryder as Spock's mum was a totally wasted opportunity.

Simon Pegg and Karl Urban were just beautiful as Scotty and Bones. Chekov the nerdtastic 17 year old maths genius was a lovely reinvention of the original.

At the end, we both just wanted another one.

I cannot imagine how you can possibly find this man appealing.
(ok, except for maybe the pure sex he exudes.)
And is it just me, or does this image have a very ClockworkOrange vibe to it?

Whoa, that looks exactly like a Clockwork Orange fancy dress outfit, yes. They're not remaking it are they?

I think it's the aura of raw sex he exudes. Probably.

(*spoilers ahoy*)

Oh my goodness, they were all so cute! I couldn't decide who I loved the most.

I liked the way they rebooted the series... it's nice that they don't have to follow the original timeline now, but it didn't feel *too* forced or easy, you know?

THANK YOU: Winona Ryder in that role, MEH, total wasted opp. Agreed. This annoyed me.

Ditto Uhura. I did like her character but... but... I mean, wth? It felt like her role was overshadowed by Being Spock's Lover. Hopefully this imbalance is rectified in the sequel. Because there must be one. I had too much fun for there not to be one. *waits impatiently, and goes to see this one a couple more times*

(Hee hee, I did like Chris Pine as Kirk. He's barely reminiscent of Shatner, but he's got his very own cute-cocky-asshole thing down. Highly entertaining.)

(And it was fun to get to see Sulu be badass. Simon Pegg and Karl Urban were sublime. Gah. Must go see this again.)

It's the eyebrows. They are hypnotising. Seriously, the eyebrows are the sole reason I watched last two seasons of Heroes despite all the pain and voiceovers that show inflicted on me. Guh. It's like a thrall.

Saw an advance showing late Thursday night and fell in love with the world of Star Trek all over again. I watched the original series back in the 60's and have been thrilled by all things 'Star Trek' ever since. I didn't get drawn into Deep Space 9 or Enterprise like I did the other three series but still watched some of the episodes from those shows.

Zachary Quinto IS perfect as the young Mr. Spock. By the end of the film, you could see the chemistry between these characters melding them into the central core of the space crew that we have come to know and love over the past 40 years.

LIVE LONG AND PROSPER

*hugs & smiles*

I hope they aren't remaking Clockwork. That movie scarred me for life! I couldn't even imagine how graphic a modern version would be. XD

Star Trek no.11 is LOVE!

I didn't want to clink on this yesterday because I hadn't seen it yet but ... NOW I HAVE!!!! And the little boy clapped at the end he was so happy! He asked me earlier if there was going to be

spaceships
guns
fights

I think he was pretty much satisfied! ^__^ And a new generation of fans is guranteed!

*hugs* It was a great film! *hmmm ponders the thought of going to see it again on one;s own!* ^_~

I suspect Ryder had a larger role that ended up on the cutting room floor. One of the early trailers had a scene with her and baby!Spock that didn't end up in the movie. I feel bad about that, and fairly miffed about Uhura, but I am glad they cut the movie down to an interesting, reasonable length.

I got a bit confused with Spock/Uhura and didn't realised they were actually a couple until about two thirds of the way into the film, but otherwise they were sweet. I was glad Chris Pine reinvented the role. No one could really do The Shat and be taken seriously, could they?

I loved Sulu's sword fighting moment, shame he didn't get a bit more action though. But all in all, wheeeee! It was a lot if fun. :)

Ah, that explains a lot re Ryder. Her role seemed very curtailed and kind of superficial. Shame.

I did appreciate the film not being an epic, indeedy.

Yeah, it's such a lovely remake, reinspiring the old trek love. :) I think a lot of people fell in love with it all over again. There's a lot of enthusiasm for it on my flist, I think because it was done so well done.

Spaceships, guns, fights, check. Pretty men, too. I've been pondering going on my own too, for another go round! I think we should.

Apparently Nichelle Nichols was going to be Uhura's grandma but that one didn't work either.

YES. Maybe there will be deleted scenes on the DVD and everyone will win!
