Rafa won his first hard court major title. Roger lost his attempt to match Pete Sampras's record of 14 majors titles. I'm so emotionally conflicted. Happy for Rafa, really fucking sad for Roger. I'm so glad I got see them play such amazing tennis.

There were tears. Lots of tears. Roger cried a lot. I read just now that Rafa was crying too. Mirka was crying. On the podium, Rafa collected his trophy and went straight back to hug Roger, who was still crying.

One of the first words of his acceptance speech was 'sorry'. Then he went on to tell Roger that he knew exactly how Roger was feeling and that Roger was a great champion. I think this just made Roger cry even harder. You know how, when someone is being so nice, it just makes it all the harder to stop? In a way, I think it's good that he just let all that emotion out right afterwards, even if it was painful to see.

I love them.

Exactly. It was such an amazing match, and watching Roger cry and not being able to stop was just devastating, and Rafa's face, oh gods, his conflicted face just made me want to hug the two of them and not let go. It was an amazing match and I hope there will be more amazing matches in the future between the two.

I unexpectedly heard the news on my way to school this morning and wanted to burst out crying, all the while smiling ferociously. Once I heard the beginning of Rafa's speech on the sports highlights, I wanted to cry again, because he is such a good person and he is saying all the things we would say if we could, to console Roger.

(another random comment. I've been lurking around for a while reading Tennis and Saiyuki fic, mostly catching up, and feeling awed by all the to-be-read goodness)
