Ahh, I must apologize for the utter lateness of this comment. I actually read it the same day you posted it, and have since had it open in a browser tab of its own, as I am wont to do with things I want to savor, rereading it and trying to think of how to articulate just how lovely it is.
I have a terrible weakness for your AUs, and when you mentioned some time ago that you were writing about vampires, I looked forward to it more than is probably healthy. I love how you've made it a story that can stand on its own, and yet also incorporated the essences of the Saiyuki characters. The details are rich and wonderful, and it was fun to gradually figure out who all the characters were - I didn't catch the significance of the white hound until I'd read it a few times. Thomas wanting to cut his hair (interestingly, upon being estranged from Nikola) was a very nice touch, and Nikola's long hair and voracious reading habits reminded me of Tenpou. I want very much to draw something inspired by this, but can't make up my mind *what*, except that it must have Nikola in it in some way. The mental image of Thomas' first sight of him is very vivid. What decade does it take place in, so that I can make his clothing *properly* fashionable?
And finally, because I only just caught this, very late: "Be peaceful," Nikola whispered. "Sleep sweetly." His words shook.
Ah, so hurt-y, in such a good way. I'll be a very sad person if this doesn't get a continuation. Just gorgeous. &hearts &hearts
