louiseluxI sent someone an email this morning about the pet name 'love', (see previous entry). They'd used it very differently to the way a UK english writer/speaker would use it. In America, calling someone 'love' has rather different connotations. The only reason it mattered was because it was a Harry Potter story, so the somewhat inappropriate use was very noticable. After plucking up my courage, I opened her email back to me, and it was the sweetest, most charming thing! She wasn't offended at all, but pleased. Now I'm very pleased too.
