Seems like everytime I read something of yours lately, I think 'This is it; the best she's ever done. God she's amazing.' and I wonder how you can possibly get better, and then you do!
You mention that the demotion was the thing that inspired the fic, and I could see that was the case, but I really think that in the end, what actually came through much stronger for me was the subtle, almost inevitable shift in their emotions, from inside and unspoken, to somehow outside and known, and it was as if neither of them had in fact intended for it to happen and yet it somehow still had.
The undercurrents of longing in this piece, the deft, delicate description, it was all so perfect, so adept, words of enjoyment are almost grossly inadequate. Every word you write reiterates why I worship and respect you. I can't even name a favourite moment (although that moment on deck just after Tenpou disappears was so powerful) - I think I just fell in love with Kenren all over again.
