Bushwacked

George Bush's State of the Union speech is given a rather different spin by Chris Morris (of The Day Today and Blue Jam). His Bushwacked video amuses me and disturbs me in equal measure.

I haven't been online much this weekend, but this evening I've updated my website with everything new I've done for the past month or two. Not much really, but there are some bits and pieces: two stories and a drabble. Also did fiddlly things like embedding my recs journal on the site and updating links.

I've had a very nice weekend. We went off to London yesterday for a wander about.  In Covent Garden we went into the map shop and ordered a world map of sea beds, which will come in handy if we ever go on a submarine expedition but otherwise will look nice in the downstairs hall.

I spent quite a while downstairs at Forbidden Planet and came away with two things: Here is Greenwood vol 1 and, yay! a Saiyuki Reload series companion book thingy with art and sketches and interviews in Japanese that I can't read! Still, I can stare at it.  Here is Greenwood is deeply charming and silly, being the life and times in a boy's dorm.

We walked to South Kensington tube via Harvey Nichols, where they've stopped selling Demeter perfume (they saw us coming and chucked it out, I think). Bum. We plunged recklessly into Harrods-- it was a sort of living hell with Gucci handbags and also no Demeter.  I think I'll give up on it in the UK and will try and order it from the US.

Work tomorrow. The ironing calls, as does my nightly installment of Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell. It's too big to take on the train, you see, so my reading is limited to bedtime.

Good night!

Ooh, I've seen Bushwhacked before. Your assessment was exactly what I felt, too, although one could also say that this is pretty tame and mainstream for Chris (I just typed 'Christ' -- not sure what that means) Morris. He's an immensely talented and clever man, and anyone who can put the wind up the Daily Mail and Michael Grade has got to be doing something right. I really don't think people know how to deal with him, because he's utterly unique. He may be a genius, but sometimes I can't bear to watch/listen to him. I'm probably a bit of a wimp, but some of his material is just too harsh for me.

I *love* Here is Greenwood. I even have th OVA as .rm files somewhere if you want them.

It's a series with *canon* genderswitch AUs! How cool is that?
and if you want Saiyuki reload stuff in japanese that you can't read, let me know.

I can see why it might seem tame and mainstream compared to other things he's done, but I can't see it being shown on TV in the UK (unless that's where you saw it?). Sadly though, that's probably more a reflection of the lack of risk taking by tv execs rather than the film being very outrageous.

I totally agree with you about him - he's brilliant, but the things he does make me cringe and hide my eyes a lot of the time. Sometimes the celebrities he's torturing seem all too like poor dumb animals being led to the slaughter! But, well, they probably deserve it.

Here is Greenwood is quite insane - it took me half of the first manga to work out if Shun (?) really was a boy or girl. I'd love to see the OVA, if that's okay.

And oooh yes! to the Saiyuki stuff in Japanese that I can't read. I just like to collect:)

Do you want more ginger biscuits and possibly salt and vinegar crisps in return?

No, someone sent me the link. I wouldn't have guessed it was by Chris Morris but for that straight-for-the-jugular quality all his stuff has. But you're right, that'll never be on TV because Blair's government is now just as vicious and vindictive as Thatcher's at its worst, and no-one can take risks like that any more. Who would have thought?

he's brilliant, but the things he does make me cringe and hide my eyes a lot of the time.

Comedy's been like that for a while now. I felt/feel the same way about The Office, Little Britain &c. -- I end up hiding my face and cringing.

Oh, *yes*. I'll pop onto the good shops later this week, see if I can dig anything pretty up.
