Saiyuki Reload and meme
Dec. 15th, 2004 10:10 pmThe Fast and The Furious is on terrestrial tv upstairs. I feel I should be watching it so I can partake in the slashy goodness, yet instead I've been watching Saiyuki Reload (other slashy goodness). (thank you
penelope_z, they work!) .
Okay. The one with Sanzo and the pussy cat. And the one with the woman born with the power to kill demons with her cooking. I'm just not going to say anything about those. No, I am - Sanzo was snuggling with a widdle pussy cat! Demon-killing with soup!
But the others were fun. All right, they were cracktastic and I want to watch every single one. Who knew that Sanzo was a muscle beefcake instead of a skinny shrimpy guy? Actually, I find his injection moulded looking chest very disturbing, like Action-Man on steriods. I don't like his voice much - well, no, it's a perfectly lovely voice, it's just not how I imagined Sanzo to sound. I thought he'd sound a bit more girly, to tell the truth. It'd fit in with the fact he's supposed to look very girly to everyone. Goku is more annoying than cute. Hakkai has a beautiful, perfect Hakkai voice, and that light, tinkling laugh? Creepy in lots of ways. Gojyo has a good voice too. Shame about the animation quality, I have to say. And the scripts seem a bit lacking in sparkle. The anime doesn't capture the charm of the manga very well, but then I suppose it was intended to do something very different to the manga - to get a wider audience, perhaps. It feels a bit more like a kids show and it reminds me very much of the original Monkey series made by Chinese TV and shown over here in the 80s.

1) Sally forth to Fanfiction.net. Gird thy loins. Plunge in.
2) Choose a book, movie, show, etc. you have never heard of (or, in a pinch, at least one you know nothing about aside from the name) that has at least ten fics listed.
3) Read only the first page of story summaries.
4) Using what you have learned from these summaries, describe what this book/movie/whatever is about. Be as silly as you like, but ONLY use whatever you just learned..
Here's an anime called Ultimate Muscle:
There are robots. Wrestling robots. Perhaps there are real people wrestlers too. Anyhow, they're controlled by the Russian government and sometimes they get cruelly replaced by newer models, then they go away and shack up together and angst.
In this anime, people die, suffer horrible incidents and are generally in lots of pain. They fight for the Chojin Crown.
There is someone called Pumpinator. There is someone called Kevin. I think they might be secretly gay. Warsman wears chains, and Barracuda hates him.
The one called Turbinski seems to very popular with all the others, until he dies a horrible death, or suffers a horrible incident in Tokyo. He's married, but I think (just between you and me) he's secretly gay.
