So I meant to go out for only one or two cocktails after work, but somehow managed to stumble through the door at 1am after dancing to some very awful (and not fun awful, bad awful) music at the fez club. Despite the music, I had a great time, and much yakking was done with friends.

I told one of my slash-friendly men friends that I was going to Connotations; he was very impressed and bemoaned the fact that men don't have things like that, instead they have things like football. Which is a thought I've pondered many a time. If you've ever read Nick Hornby's Fever Pitch, the first chapter, where he talks about his obsession with football-- it's a brilliant description of what being obsessed with something is like; the way you find yourself thinking about it all the time, not in any constructive way, but just daydreaming about, for example, a particular goal over and over again. That sort of behaviour sounded very, very familiar to me, I can spend frighteningly large chunks of time thinking non-constructive slashy thoughts. You mean you daydream about smut, Louise, I hear you all say. Well, er, maybe.

And anyway, men get more than football, they get to mend things as well. He should be content with that!
