Firefly is great - sort of like Blake's 7 for the modern age. I can't believe it wasn't given a second series. It seems so unfair, especially since things like Sliders (the programme that gave Gimli his big break)(eta: and er, Indiana Jones, that minor film series you may have heard of - thank you, [livejournal.com profile] musesfool); ran for what seemed many thousands of episodes.

It's back to work tomorrow, after a blissful week off. I'm using my new icon in anticipation (good work news though: I'm being paid a half decent salary at last - personnel, the useless boobies, finally sorted the problem).

There is a Firefly movie-length thing currently in production. Just as with Farscape, the fan campaign managed to show there was enough interest to generate at least that, if not another series.

The irritating thing is that Farscape was contracted for another season, before Sci-Fi changed it's mind (and tried to wangle the timing so the news would go out quietly, when the show was on hiatus) and Farscape was never really given a fair showing by Fox- not the publicity/support, messing around with the episode order, not showing the last three episodes of the season.

Firefly is definitely great! (BTW, I bought the DVD US version a while ago, as soon as it was released). I've been industrially pimping it and everyone I've shown it too has caved. It's such a pity it wasn't shown in Britain earlier because the British viewing figures (it was the Sci-fi Channels highest ever rated series) might have influenced TPTB in the US not to pull the plug (apparently this happened on at least one other occasion).

And, many congrats on finally getting the long overdue payrise.

Finally, here's hoping you can make the slashbash!

I watched Sliders religiously in high school. Mostly because I had a friend who would run red lights to watch it.

It was good up to a certain point, right? Or did I waste part of my life?

Sliders (the programme that gave Gimli his big break)

*blinks*

Wasn't being in two Indiana Jones movies enough to do that?

Anyhow, yes, Firefly is good stuff. Can't wait for the movie. *g*

Oh. Indiana Jones was one of those things that I never got round to watching. Possibly they would have been it, then, rather than Sliders:-)

Sliders was good for a while, but then they had to go and wheel on the evil baddie who chased them - personally that's when it went wrong for me.

Yay, Firefly! I think it's wonderful. Am looking forward to finally making it to one to your gatherings:-)

Thanks for the congrats, btw. I'm v. relieved the whole pay thing is sorted out

Praise them! That news made me very happy indeed. I'm glad Joss is using the same cast.

It's a shame - there seems to be a solid fan following for Firefly. Perhaps after the film's made and is, hopefully, a success, then the show might get picked up again.
