Mornington Crescent?

Anyone fancy a game of Mornington Crescent?

Trondheim rules, but with the 1976 Bovington paradox, which I think we'll find adds quite a bit of excitement to the game!

I'll go first. I'm going to play, hmm: Colindale

[identity profile] derryderrydown.livejournal.com 2007-10-18 10:56 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I love the Bovington paradox!

And I therefore invoke it by saying - Monument.

[identity profile] temaris.livejournal.com 2007-10-18 10:57 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh! Then I can use a McKenzie Switch to Euston Square (third Thursday in the month! I *never* remember that one in time *is smug*).

[identity profile] louiselux.livejournal.com 2007-10-18 11:09 am (UTC)(link)
Third Thursday. Yes, you're right!

Okay, if you're playing that and it's also the second Thursday before the end of the month I think I can safely say Wapping.

Before you question it, this is taking into account Blair's Seventh Purge of the original Trondheim rules.

Kings Cross. Because an alarm has just gone off in the background so this is the only allowable station.

[identity profile] louiselux.livejournal.com 2007-10-18 11:12 am (UTC)(link)
Damn, well played.

In that case I'm going to have use Von Stamm's Diversion to Tower Hamlets.

[identity profile] wedjateye.livejournal.com 2007-10-18 11:17 am (UTC)(link)
Oh dear! You didn't say this was a Championship-standard game. I'm going to have to invoke Hawking's paradoxical rule for beginners (thank you google) and detour via Sydney's Martin Place.

Aha, yes. I think you'll find that, while this is covered in the Hawkings paradoxical rule for beginners, it's actually only allowable on Fridays if there is a light drizzle.

Actually...

[identity profile] crystal-lilly.livejournal.com 2007-10-18 01:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I think you'll find that the variant is allowed under the Inverse Troxley-Banes Manouvre used in conjunction with the Aldus-Hawkings slide. This negates the light drizzle, especially when using the Frasure-Euston definition of "Friday". However, invoking this manouvre bans the player from selecting any American stations for the next 50.428 years.

Hmm.

All right, if the castling rule still applies (I'm quite sure this was sanctioned in 1973 by the breakaway extra-parliamentary sub-committee), then two random Londoners will soon find themselves in Times Square, whilst [livejournal.com profile] derryderrydown and I will be transported to the Angel, Islington to continue with the proper game.

Well, I'm on the second floor, so that's only Victoria line... I'm going to go with Blackhorse Road. :D

[identity profile] louiselux.livejournal.com 2007-10-18 01:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Second floor... I'm on the fifth, and I think that gives me Lancaster Gate.

[identity profile] cutselvage.livejournal.com 2007-10-18 01:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Currently on the sixth floor facing north, thus allowing me to jump to Harrow-on-the-hill using Edgar the Ninth's Triple-Switch Manoeuvre.

If I may join in: Blackfriars, using the 1996 Yaxley Amendment for reversible positioning.

Kentish Town. (Oh, come on. Did you expect me to follow a Yaxley Blackfriars with anything else?)

Are you using the Kettering double-toed pincer manoeuvre? It looks like it, so, seeing as it's October, I'm playing Oxford Circus!

Oh, what a fascinating looking game! I've been trying to follow all your moves and deduce the rules, and don't think I've got it quite down yet because it seems like there should be a dogleg over to Kensington Gardens before four o'clock. (But then it's not yet noon here so I may yet be proven right!)

[identity profile] louiselux.livejournal.com 2007-10-19 09:58 am (UTC)(link)
It might take a little while to fully understand the rules. The Kensington Dogleg is a common beginners mistake, sadly. I'll give you a clue though... Just think about the possibilities of East Acton.
