Rafa and Wimbers

From various reports, Rafa was moving well today in his exhibition with Wawa, much better than yesterday. He still lost though - they won a set each and Rafa lost the resulting tiebreak. He's having a press conference at 7pm today to say whether or not he's playing Wimbers, and I suppose he'll also give us the latest news on the tendonitis.

Rafa's poor knees. They need kisses and possibly also special bows tying around them. :(

Yesterday, Uncle Toni strongly implied that Rafa wouldn't or shouldn't be playing - it was all a bit strange. This is really the first time Uncle Toni has given me the irrits, because I seriously don't think he should be joining in the speculation at this point.

ETA: he's not playing, and said it was the most difficult decision of his career. Sadness. Get better soon, Rafa.

I dunno... maybe he's just trying to manage people's expectations, so they don't get their hopes up regarding Rafa's chances to play.

Yeah, I think you're actually right and that was probably his motive, because it does seem v doubtful that Rafa is going to play, sadly. It just peeved me for some reason, I'm not even sure why.

between rafa and the cat and ongoing work drama, i am not sure there is any chance of me getting through this evening without drinking myself into oblivion.

I hope the spirit animal has fully recovered now? Do you think Feli is busy kissing Rafa's knees better right at this moment?

Uncle Toni's comment made me wonder if there's a behind-the-scenes clash of wills going on between him and Rafa (e.g., Rafa insisting he should play, Uncle Toni urging him to drop out already). Who knows what's getting lost in translation, but his comment reminded me of one of those supporting actors who turns to the audience and says, "I told them not to go into the house! You see them going into the house anyway? No good is going to come of this and it's totally not my fault, you hear?"

*sigh*

Oh, they do have a ring of that to them, you'e right. Toni is very blunt speaking, and I think Rafa has probably inherited that trait from him. I'm sure Toni has said in the past that they have lots of disagreements over things, and that Rafa has his own mind about things. One can only imagine the mutual stubbornness that goes on behind closed doors. :)

I'm still so sad for him. :(

There's no word from the Rafa camp on how he's doing yet but I hope he's hanging out on the beach not thinking about tennis. His poor knees.

I feel so sorry for Rafa. He worked so hard for that championship, and now he doesn't get the chance to defend it. Heartbreaking for the poor guy, and Wimbledon will feel something of an anti-climax without him - an element of challenge has gone from it :-(

That's the most awful part - it was such a hard won victory, and now he has to give it away. Wimbers does really feel like it's missing something now.
