Fic and random thoughts

I wrote fic: Saiyuki Gaiden, Kenren/Tenpou: Ascension, r, for the [livejournal.com profile] saiyuki_time challenge.

***

I still have [livejournal.com profile] new_kate's notebook and makeup kit from when she came to stay in April. It was an awesome visit, I think I forgot to mention it at the time, and we had grand plans to go and see some opera that have not gone anywhere yet. Yet! Maybe going to see opera is more a winter activity. She also told me, in vast sprawling hours long installements, about the novel that is currently living inside her brain. There is nothing like listening to someone with an amazing imagination telling you a complicated and well thought out story about hot men, religion and mysterious technology. I wallowed in it, verily.

It inspired me to begin to plan out a new project for this summer, which involves concerted novel writing with an aim for publication. I have two loose ideas which need a lot more firming up, but hopefully I'll be ready to start in about a month's time. I've embroiled [livejournal.com profile] emungere in this as well, so we can egg each other on/commiserate/gnash teeth, and she already has something she's been wanting to write for years, so that's worked out well! My Grand Plan, let me show you it.

In other news, I slipped on our garden steps and smashed my arm in a flailing way into the steps. I now have a lovely dull blue bruise that is highlighted with purple speckles and dashes of vibrant yellow. I also have a line-shaped matching bruise on the posterior. Ow.

Final note: I am really confused about who to vote for in the lj elections, but I feel I should vote and add my voice to the throng. From what I've seen of them, [livejournal.com profile] jameth appears to be something of a dick, [livejournal.com profile] rm seems to be extremely sensible, and the others I don't know at all.

Novel writing? Well, good luck with that! I'm sure the two of you could pull it off. ^___~

As far as the LJ elections go, it's funny that you put up this post just as I was finishing casting my vote. I went and checked out several of the journals of the people running. It was...and interesting experience, to say the least.

[livejournal.com profile] jameth is very anti-fandom, and doesn't hide the fact that he thinks fandomers are "freaks." He's especially fond of picking on [livejournal.com profile] legomymalfoy who is a HP slash writer, also running. According to the results thus far, [livejournal.com profile] legomymalfoy is the front runner with 8000+ votes. They seem nice enough, but...I don't know. I agree with you that [livejournal.com profile] rm seems like the sensible choice. That's who I voted for, anyway.

Oops! Didn't mean to ramble so much at you. *sweatdrop* You just caught me with that last bit of your post. *bows*

In all the hoohah (totally a technical term), I saw someone say, "You may not know who to vote for, but you probably know who to vote against," and so that's how I voted. Because I definitely know I don't want [livejournal.com profile] jameth.

Exactly. I can't believe people are actually voting for someone who subscribes to shrines for Scott Peterson. Jesus.

I went with tactical voting. I'd have preferred [livejournal.com profile] rm, but [livejournal.com profile] legomymalfoy seems to have more chance of getting in, and I'd quite like a fan-friendly person in there.

Yup, I voted tactically, too.

Ouch, your arm and bum!

The novel writing sounds wonderful! I hope there will be h0ttness and loveliness :-)

I wish I'd voted [livejournal.com profile] legomymalfoy for all three options. Just in case it comes down to the transferable vote thing. Oh well.

Good luck with the novel writing! I'm sure you'll write something wonderful.

You can change your vote here:

http://www.livejournal.com/poll/?id=1192389&mode=enter

Except voting for the same person all three times will disqualify those votes, I think. I'd suggest RM for the second and Vichan for the third as that's the general fandom consensus. But follow your heart. :)

[livejournal.com profile] rm is actually one of my choices already and I'm happy with my third choice but I noticed [livejournal.com profile] jameth was encouraging people to vote for him three times and that made me worry that he'd get in because he'd have the most cumulative votes.

*nods* Hopefully LJ will do what they said and disqualify those so his totals will go down.

I went into more detail about this in a reply to [livejournal.com profile] stormcloude's comment, but the short version is: voting for the same person three times guarantees that only your first vote will count. You were right to vote for three different people.

Great! Thanks for letting me know.

Voting for the same person all three times doesn't disqualify those votes, but only the first vote will count. The way that LJ's tallying votes means that a voter's second choice vote (and third choice, if it comes to that) only gets added to the totals once that person's first choice candidate has been eliminated from the running.

It's not hurting Jameth to have his voters waste their extra votes on him, but it's not actually helping him, either. It would be completely counterproductive to follow that example if there's more than one candidate you'd be happy to see win, though, since you can't help your first-choice candidate that way and can only hurt your potential second- and third-choice candidates in the event that your first-choice candidate gets eliminated from the running.

Oooh another novel. Can you tell anything about your idea, or is it still percolating?

I ended up voting strategically for legomymalfoy as well, after reading some really damning things (and then some more) about jameth.

Thinking about the idea of your writing a novel is much more pleasant than thinking about this election ... !

Is your novel for publishing? Or are you already published? (You should be.) Good luck with the teeth gnashing and all that, I'll b e cheering for you.

Sorry about your bruises.

[identity profile] baka-gaijin.livejournal.com 2008-05-29 04:36 pm (UTC)(link)
First of all regarding the fall and the bruise... ouch! And you should take pics of the bruise so that we can all marvel in the color display (except the posterior, if you're shy about that sort of thing. XD). I think it's amazing how bruises change from day to day. Wierd, I know.

As for the novel writing, I would definately encourage you on that front. I read way more fanfic then is probably healthy for me (but what fun!), and so I am an Expert In This Field and can say that you (and Emungere) have such a way with words that is amazing.

And yet another of my favorite authors gets lured over to the Dark Side of (gasp) Original Fiction. Yes, yes. I know. It's the nature of being a creative person, to want to spread their wings and do original stuff and be published and all of that. But it also means less time for writing fanfiction.
