Fic year in review 2007

Hello 2008! A very happy new year to all. There were lots of fireworks last night and I have a hangover the size of which seems unfairly disproportionate to the amount of fizzy wine consumed. However, I did manage to spend some time reviewing my fiction output for 2007 and it is quite an enlightening activity, I must say.

February

Two short backstories to the Saiyuki/Batman AU - Hakkai and Sanzo, and Goku and Nat

Stripper!Gojyo part two - Saiyuki AU, Hakkai/Gojyo, written with [livejournal.com profile] emungere

Monday Morning - Antique Bakery, Ono and Tachibana, companion fic to Adrift.

My favorite story of this year: of just my own, it would be either Over the Moon because it was so satisfying to write. Of the ones I've written with [livejournal.com profile] emungere, Cupidity wins pretty much hands down because I love the complexity of that story. However, I also love The Fatal Cravat, because of the sheer exhilarating fun of the writing.

My best story this year: Cupidity, probably. Of just my own, I find it hard to judge. I like both Orders and The Sea, for some of the imagery I used. I like Over the Moon for its structure. I adore the Metonymy of Gloom and Horror because it's a ghost story.

Story most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: I really loved writing the Metonymy of Gloom and Horror, but perhaps it wasn't as well liked as I wanted it to be.

Most fun story: that's hard, because I had a lot of fun writing in 2007. The Fatal Cravat and also Temple of Love.

Most sexy story: I don't know! I'd like to know what other people think about this? Of the things not finished and posted yet, it would ttly have to be the crossdressing maid Hakkai story.

Story with single sexiest moment: I am very fond of the morning after the night before sex that Julian and Patrick have in The Fatal Cravat. I also really like the moment Tenpou falls to his knees in Orders. Oh, and also the sex in chapter two of Cupidity.

Hardest story to write: Cupidity!! Hands down winner again. Actually, it was surprisingly smooth going for much of it, but there was one point about two-thirds in that was easily the hardest writing experience I have ever had. A lot rested on us deciding on the best path for the plot.

"Holy crap, that's *wrong*, even for you" story: some of the anonymeme kinks, mwahaha. Wow, some were really wrong, and also hot. I'd like to tidy them up and post them properly at some point.

Thank you for posting this!
I thought I read all your works but somehow I missed "The metonymy of gloom and horror".
(probably because I didn't read AU stories with different character names before.. but then your "The Fatal Cravat" changed everything! ^^;;;)

You know, what I like most about reading Saiyuki fanfictions is that there are so many possibilities for interpretation of characters, without losing touch of their original characteristics.
It seems like there are as many Sanzo, Goku, Hakkai and Gojyo as there are fanfic writers.
They are all still them and yet somehow all slightly different; it's so fascinating that I don't think I'll ever get tired of reading Saiyuki fanfics.
There always seems to be new character discoveries to be found.

And I like your version of Sanzo, Goku, Hakkai and Gojyo very much.
They are somewhat different from how I view them myself, (your version is quite darker and actually much more creepy.. ^^;;; it shocks me sometimes and then I realize you're probably right and it breaks my heart.. poor boys) but somehow I think your viewpoint is closer to that of Minekura Kazuya's.

Oh, my, look at me.. I'm babbling on in your journal! ^^;;
I just wanted to tell you that I always enjoy reading your fics(Thank you for sharing them with us!) and look forward to reading new ones in 2008.
Happy new year, Louise Lux!!

Mmm, I agree. Sanzo, Hakkai, Gojyo and Goku are all sort of heartbreaking in their own way, and each with a lot of darkness inside them. I think that's what attacts me so much to them. Not because I have any particular similarity to them in my life, but because the things that have happened to them are so extreme and yet they still find time to bicker and to love each other.

Happy new year to you, too. It's always a pleasure to get your comments and thoughts about Saiyuki and my stories! :D
