Drabble, saiyuki+various links, brooches

Drabble I wrote for the [livejournal.com profile] 100_roadtrips classic literature challenge : The Metamorphosis - the kappa turns into a giant bug.

Various fics I've enjoyed recently:

Wild Adapter and Antique Bakery drabbles by [livejournal.com profile] devikun

Maid Fetish by [livejournal.com profile] threewalls - Hakkai's, um, love of cleaning.

I’ll See Your Heart and Raise You Mine by [livejournal.com profile] eris_frost, Gojyo/Hakkai, PG 13 - sweet and restrained fic about Hakkai and guilt.

A Treatise on Tactics by [livejournal.com profile] springgreen, Tenpou/Kenren not-quite-smut. Tenpou is so going to win the war, too.

Promises Unbroken also by [livejournal.com profile] springgreen. Wonderful story of promises kept, or at least the attempt to keep them. 500 years of blonds falling off mountains will stay with me a long time.

Kenyuu's Advice Column by [livejournal.com profile] new_kate - such good advice.

Brief Encounter by [livejournal.com profile] daegaer - Schuldig/Yohji. Enthralling Weiss Kreuz fic set after Yohji leaves and becomes Ryo.

In other news, the janitor story has stopped writing itself and is now making me do all the hard work, which is scaring me because it's really too hard and wah! But I got a couple more thousand words done yesterday and this morning. Alas, they are resistant to having any sex whatsoever, at least for the time being. Oh! inspiration strikes. Hehehe.

Randomly, one of the good things about my job is that I get to browse jewellery sites as much as I like. I am torn between the puffer fish and the sting ray, not that I could afford either: Bee, butterly and dragonfly brooches, sting ray brooch and a stag beetle brooch and puffer fish pendant. On second thoughts I like the puffer fish most.

ETA: I forgot to ask - was there ever a Saiyuki newsletter-type community, like there are for other fandoms? If not, would people want one? People's views on this, pros and cons etc, welcome!

I have no idea if such a newsletter-type community ever existed, but I'd be all about it. XD especially since I like Saiyuki news and whatnot, but the general fannish squee-ing, bad art, and bad fic on most fandom communites drives me nuts

[identity profile] louiselux.livejournal.com 2006-05-05 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Hurray! That's good to know. :-) I was sure there used to be one, but I can't remember what it was called. It might be good to doone, although I half think it might just cause me lots of work. Although, I wouldn't be trying for anything comprehensive, just a round up of things I found interesting.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2006-05-05 01:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Might be worth getting a few like-minded people and seeing if you could trade off. It could be a weekly roundup similar to blog carnivals like the Grand Rounds (http://politedissent.com/archives/1208) in the medblog world.

I don't know whether there was a Saiyuki newsletter comm either but I'd certainly join one ^_^! What did you have in mind? Something along the lines of [livejournal.com profile] gundam_herald or something more all encompassing?

[identity profile] louiselux.livejournal.com 2006-05-05 12:10 pm (UTC)(link)
That's good to know, thanks. Umm, I'm not sure really, but definitely not all encompassing because I don't have the time and also it'd be geared towards things I found good or interesting, I think.

No idea if there ever was such a comm, but I'd join it if it was like [livejournal.com profile] hl_flash or [livejournal.com profile] gushoushinfiles.

[identity profile] louiselux.livejournal.com 2006-05-05 12:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I did have something along those lines in mind, but I think they're a bit too detailed and all encomassing for the amount of time I wanted to spend. They look like a lot of work-- hmmm. This idea probably needs some more thought.

Oh, I didn't mean it had to be that detailed. Actually, what I really meant was that I don't want something with lots of unnecessary extras. Just, you know, the facts. :-)

Oh, and further thought now that I've read your comments on other comments... it sounds like you have something more like a recs type thing in mind, and really? That would be *fabulous* and so much better than a standard newsletter, because with those, you inevitably end up clicking on a lot of rubbish. I like your writing, so I'm sure I'd like your recs. I'd rather have just three of those, than thirty 'newsletter' entries. Do it! :-)

[identity profile] louiselux.livejournal.com 2006-05-08 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! That's exactly what I was thinking of - pointing to fics and discussion I liked. Thanks for the encouragement :)

[identity profile] eris-frost.livejournal.com 2006-05-04 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you for reccing my fic! :) *is very flattered* And um, being something of a newbie in the Saiyuki fandom, I'm not sure if there is a Saiyuki newsletter comm, but I think that would be a lovely idea. :)

[identity profile] louiselux.livejournal.com 2006-05-05 12:06 pm (UTC)(link)
You're welcome. :-)

I'm sort of torn on the newsletter idea-- probably need to think it through a bit, but it's good to know you think it's a good idea.

Thanks for the recs, and I'm so glad you liked the Promises fic in particular! Man, Gaiden just kills me.

[identity profile] louiselux.livejournal.com 2006-05-05 12:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Me too. Sometimes I am profoundly struck by the differences between what they were then and what they are now. It's the way they've suffered, partly, and also the idea that they'd be seaching for each other, all unknowing.

Yes, exactly! Particularly the thought that Sanzo and all his reincarnations have been searching for Goku for ages and ages, gaaaaah. And the image of Goku chained in his cave, constantly calling out for something that he doesn't even remember totally kills me.

Something like [livejournal.com profile] sga_newsletter? That would be awesome!

[identity profile] louiselux.livejournal.com 2006-05-05 12:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Something along those lines, although I don't tihnk I'd even attempt to be comprehensive, just pick out things I liked. Which may or may not cause problems.

[identity profile] toscas-kiss.livejournal.com 2006-05-05 11:46 am (UTC)(link)
And I love the brooches! Wish I had your job...

[identity profile] louiselux.livejournal.com 2006-05-05 12:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmmm, jewellery porn!

[identity profile] emungere.livejournal.com 2006-05-08 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
The newsletter thing sounds like an awesome idea, and also, should I write the part leading up to the suit shopping or just the suit shopping?

And speaking of shopping, now I go to get shooooooooes!

[identity profile] louiselux.livejournal.com 2006-05-08 08:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, the shoe part of the trip! I wish you much success :D

Also, you could write the part leading up to the suit shopping too, which would be Hakkai going to the club and paying the manager off for Gojyo's time?

[identity profile] louiselux.livejournal.com 2006-05-08 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, if you want. *g*

[identity profile] emungere.livejournal.com 2006-05-09 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
I have put the beginning on crackau!
