What is Sanzo thinking?

You know, in Chapter 22 of Even a Worm, where he suddenly has some sort of realisation. I had an idea.

I took [livejournal.com profile] snowyheart's advice and stared at pages 13 and 14. Sanzo describes the different sutras and what they can do, says he's never seen any of the others in action, then says that only the successor of a Sanzo can make them work, then... dun dun DUN! Sanzo realises something.

I think it might be that he has seen one in action: the Uten sutra that holds power over life and existence. Somehow it's Hazel's amulet. Meaning Hazel must be a Sanzo, either knowingly or unknowingly. Or Ukoku, because it must have something to do with him,  might have found some way of putting the power of the sutra into the amulet.

Huh. Does that sounds completely cracktastic?

Yep, it does.

But weirdly plausible.

And what happens to all those sutras that are successor-free, like the one from the Sanzo that got eaten by the scorpion youkai? Does someone pick a successor for them?

Wow. I like this theory.
I actually think you're onto something, because all sutras but one are more or less accounted for. We know where Maten, Seiten and Muten are. And one sutra is possibly still buried in the desert (Kouten?). So that leaves the one that has not been mentioned at all...

(My first comment got ate, sorry if you get two of these...)

Whee, exactly! ^^! At first I took it to mean that Master Filbert was a Sanzo (or at least had super Sanzo powerz) but I didn't even think about the possibility of Ukoku having something to do with it...

Yay for Minekura!
