Mmmm

The Big Gay Desert Love was as fabulous, big and gay as I dimly rememember it from years ago. Peter O'Toole plays Lawrence with a strange seductive quality, and as so very vulnerable. And the way Ali looks at him. And the flirting. Good grief. And there were lots of paths: it begins with a view down a road in England, paths in the desert, tracks of feet across the sand, the path of the setting sun over the water. Like, he was, you know, on a journey. Sorry, but that's about my level of complex thinking tonight.

I love Peter O'Toole in Lawrence of Arabia. I wish that I had more to say about that, but I am always in awe of that movie and speechless. He so should've won the Oscar that year.

They had a 70mm film festival in my town last year, and I got to see it veerry big screen - made me glad I'd never caught it on television before that :) And as for the slashiness! That cave scene after Lawrence has been raped and beaten, the initial disdain in which Ali (that is the Omar Sharif character, yes?) holds him, and the way it changes to fierce loyalty...not to mention O'Toole's sensuality in the role, that odd mix of purity and indulgence, the whole dream of a simpler, truer way of life and its betrayal in Guinness' final dealings for a new nation..

Yeah.
