Everything to play for and forever to play it in

Rafa won his first hard court major title. Roger lost his attempt to match Pete Sampras's record of 14 majors titles. I'm so emotionally conflicted. Happy for Rafa, really fucking sad for Roger. I'm so glad I got see them play such amazing tennis.

There were tears. Lots of tears. Roger cried a lot. I read just now that Rafa was crying too. Mirka was crying. On the podium, Rafa collected his trophy and went straight back to hug Roger, who was still crying.

One of the first words of his acceptance speech was 'sorry'. Then he went on to tell Roger that he knew exactly how Roger was feeling and that Roger was a great champion. I think this just made Roger cry even harder. You know how, when someone is being so nice, it just makes it all the harder to stop? In a way, I think it's good that he just let all that emotion out right afterwards, even if it was painful to see.

I love them.

You're braver than me - I'm not sure I can cope with watching it all again. It all feels a bit raw.

Well, I am a bad fan and didn't get up at 3 a.m. to watch the original broadcast, so the rebroadcast was my first time (though of course I was spoiled for who won). :-P
