Eurovision
The Swiss entry for the Eurovision semifinals is called 'Vampires are alive' by a band called DJ BoBo. It must be the cheesiest thing I have ever seen. Sorry Switzerland, but what were you thinking? Apparently it is a favourite to win! Amazing. My favourites so far have been Bulgaria (drumming, chain mail, lavish use of quarter tones) and Serbia (KD Lang-alike surrounded by leggy models). Oh, and Georgia was impressive too. There is a lot of leather clothing being worn generally.
Also, randomly, I had to buy some emergency tights from Boots today, because I got a ladder. On the packet it said they were imbued with the property of 'light shaping'.

But imagine my anxiety as a Finn when the broadcast begun! We were all so sure it would be a highly embarrassing experience! (I'm very un-patriotic, and even still I was nervous.) There were a small bunch of my friends watching the semi finals, and we all thought the 'postcards' were quite nice (even though we played cliche bingo with them!) - however, I feel compelled to ask what you non-Finnish persons thought of them. (No need to be nice! Just bring it on!)
Woo, I learned something today! Mainly that a 'ladder' can be something else than the thing you climb with. :D

Noo, you should not worry! I thought the two Finnish presenters were adorable, and our presenter on the BBC was saying 'ooh, look, they've got chemistry'. The crowd in the hall was massive too. I kind of loved their enthusiasm.
it's that english literalness again. it looks like a ladder, call it a ladder!

A ladder in tights is called 'silmäpako' in Finnish, which approximately translates to 'a running stitch', but a very literal translation would be 'eye escape'. :D Thus it didn't occur to me to think of it as a ladder.
