Connotations
So, where did the week go? I'm off to
connotations in a couple of hours. Slash, sea and... um... more slash! I haven't even really had time to get properly excited yet and my packing last night was pathetic. I am pretty sure I have forgotten something crucial, but I did manage to pack an outfit (complete with slingbacks!) for the Moderately Tidy Dinner on Saturday.
Also, I have not had time to get any lychees or limes for the planned champagne cocktails. And I forgot to put polish on my toenails. Oh noes.
Anyay, here is a question for you to mull over while I am away: why is there not more Kenren/Tenpou porn?

On their way to write it, people get distracted by the pretty.

Something I have pondered often. Someone should fix that. Many someones.
Have fun at connotations!

Why there is not
Re: Why there is not
I think they are hard to write though, and the lack of official translations doesn't help. It makes me feel less confident about tackling them, in any case.
Re: Why there is not
The lack of official translations can actually be very helpful, if you're willing to mess around with canon. ^,^
No, I think the real problem is that nothing effing happens in heaven, Konzen's a pain, Litouten's often overlooked, and the Tenpou/Kenren/Goujun triangle has been done so well, and in such a serious and highflown style, that people are intimidated.
You so do not need to be intimidated. (scoff)
Re: Why there is not
I think you are right about those various problems - plus all the political machinations that I do not even pretend to properly understand (and this is really where the lack of offical translations is felt) and they are all so bloody hard to write too.

it's harder though i think, some people make the mistake of assuming Gojyo=Kenren and Hakkai=Tenpou when it's not just that simple. it's hard trying to straddle the line between their similarities and differences and really bring out their characteristics.
from my experience, when i write TenKen i find it's a much more delicate balance to master. also there are other stuff troubling me, like who's the wife? or maybe who's more wifely? i see them as being able to swing either way, and that's interesting, but tricky.

But yes, they are complicated. Maybe that's just it.
