More piccies for folks

Piccies for [livejournal.com profile] enigel:

view from bedroom

I chose the view from my bedroom window, as I spend more time here than anywhere else!  And the view from the kitchen (the place where I spend the next longest amount of time) window isn't as good. The garden is looking a bit bare and you can see that my brick paved area is full of weeds. You can also see the crappy table made of a bit of kitchen work surface - in summer it has a table cloth but in winter it becomes an eyesore. It's covered in soggy pile of yew berries at the moment. You can see that the windows are not washed. In fact, I don't think they've ever been cleaned properly, beyond a hose in summer.

bookcase

We have many bookcases. This is my favourite one- it's in the downstairs front room and it has mostly children's books and sci fi, along with other things that sneak in we tidy up.  often grab something off it on the way to work in the morning, to read on the train. You can see all the other things we keep on the bookshelves too - pots, bits of nonsense, plastic doo-dahs, photos, assorted piles of things.

pantry

The pantry. This is actually a crap photo, but my excuse is that I have a cold and it stops me seeing straight. We don't have a pantry, but rather the kitchen has a big cupboard with shelves were we keep packet food, tins and suchlike. You can see there isn't much of it at the moment. That box of cereals is empty and needs chucking. The big silver biscuit tin is empty, sadly. It holds food, plates and crockery, the sewing machine, and at the bottom you can see our emergency water supply, ready for that inevitable day when society breaks down.

coat

Something I've had for a long time. I've had this coat since I was 17 - I'm 34 now, so I've had it for 17 years. It was second hand from one of my favourite shops in the world - Rags to Riches in Nottingham, which was packed with vintage clothes from the 1920s onwards, and they were all affordable on a teenager's budget. We all loved that shop, but it's long gone now. Shame.

necklace

Favourite piece of jewellery. This necklace, a present from M two years ago, which he chose. Wearing it makes me feel very glamorous. That particular pearlised finish on red glass is one of my favourite things ever in the entire history of jewellery and decorative things.

front door

View from my front door. Our front door is in the basement. This is standing at the front door, looking up at the neighbours car. My bike is visible to the right, and the small collection of pot plants to the left, with the lovely grey wheelie bin looming next to it. Behind the hedge, which we have tended mercilessly to make it grow huge, is a busy, bustling road. If you went to the top of the steps and looked left you'd see a tarmac car parking area, some potholes full of rain and across the road a row of shops. Those steps are steep.

I love seeing photos people post. Context!

Context is all! *g*

I love grass-invaded alleys! If I ever got a garden, I wouldn't feel right until grass and weeds found their way through the tiles. Ah, how good to see green growing things - most trees are already yellow here...

We have water supplies too, not because the potential break-down of the society (though it often seems imminent) but because of the frequent mishaps in the water distribution.
But... an empty biscuit tin? Inconceivable!

Wah, I can't read the titles! You sneaky one ;-)

Ah, weeds. I like having things look a bit wild and overgrown - it's more exciting somehow if a garden isn't perfect but has little hidden weedy places.

I bet that coat would be great to wear! Pity the shop is no longer there - it sounds like a treasure trove.

And speaking of treasure troves - the necklace is really quite something. I'm always so interested to see the sorts of jewellery that men choose for women. M has a good eye. I like the design a lot as well as the colour and the pearlising.

Hee! I wasn't expecting steps going *up* - but that's what this meme is all about, filling in our vague ideas about each other's environments with pictures of the reality. Those steps *do* look steep. Be careful on them!

I keep going back to look at the pic of your garden. It's just so green! I'm not used to seeing much green grass lately, because we're in the middle of the worst drought since records began. I'm also reminded of my surprise at just what a bright green the countryside was when I visited the UK about ten years ago.

Thanks for these!

The coat is lovely to wear - not unlike a suit of leopard print armour, it's so heavy.

I was thrilled with the necklace - he got me a large fake diamond ring too, a bracelet and some earrings. They were all sparkly, differernt kinds of sparkle and different colours but they all go together incredibly well. He definitely has an eye.

The garden is so green it's practically luminous right now - it's what my gardener friend refers to as the 'Autumn spurt'. Everything is having one last burst before winter sets in for good.

I'm glad you like seeing the photos - it's good to connect with people like this. Personally, I find it continually weird not having visual information about my online friends.

Love the hanging seat in the garden.

It's lovely to sit in in the summmer, with book and nice cooling gin and tonic. *wistful sigh*
