General update

Aargh. I owe people emails and feedback and all sorts of things, and [livejournal.com profile] icegemini needs a packet of ice gems, which I've not forgotten. I want to sit down and spend the afternoon doing all this stuff, but I can't because of I've got a stupid hangover that feels like someone's filled my head with wet sand. Red wine. I'll never learn, ever.  Instead of being able to concentrate, all I can think of to do is to go to H&M and buy up their entire new autumn wardrobe of chintzy, tweedy elderly-lady-detective outfits. But changing room mirrors, hangovers and cheap clothes were never meant to mix. I've developed a love of brown clothes recently, despite having it drummed into me by my life-drawing tutor that brown clothes 'spoke of death and decay' and one must never wear them.  As well as shooting down in flames those who wore brown,  before each lesson she also used to make us perform calisthenics on the lawn in front of the student residences. She was small, birdlike, bobbed hair and always in black -  and could deliver the sort of tongue lashings that could crush an ego flat in a second. Anyway, despite this, I want More Brown Clothes. I don't care about the death and decay aspect anymore.

My plan for the rest of the day is now as follows: shower, dress, go into town and buy something brown, come home, eat crisps, write emails, read some fic ([livejournal.com profile] janecarnall's Professionals stuff), then get ready for friends coming round in the evening. Eat mum's home-made pie she bought last weekend. Avoid wine. Hopefully by this time the hangover will have gone and I'll feel less like a troll.

Because I too am in pain (horrible migraine rather than hangover, unfortunately) I decided to start with the shorter paragraph, and was charmed by the idea of you going off to buy Something Brown. It was even better to imagaine you buying detective outfits, elderly lady or not.

I have a feeling my mind isn't quite working again yet :-)

*hugs daegaer's mind*

I didn't get anything brown in the end, sadly, or anything that would make me look like Miss Marple, much as I wanted to. But am now deliberating on whether to invest in a rumpled trenchcoat a la Columbo.

I've read and enjoyed the revised Banner/Gregg - I'll get back to you v soon on that matter! Hope you feel better very soon.

Awww. Hope the hangover isn't too bad! And good luck with the brown clothes - more power to you. I look terrible in brown.

And hey, no pressure on the Ice Gems. *g*

whee! biscuit!

Ice Gems coming your way, toot sweet. Hey, I heard that they were releasing Tim Tams over here - they're a sort of chocolate covered sandwich biscuit, aren't they?

[identity profile] cutselvage.livejournal.com 2004-08-14 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
OMG TIM-TAMS.

Er, yes, they are a chocolate-covered sandwich biscuit, and they are (imho) blissfully good. Out here we have: Original, Caramel (blech, because I don't like caramel much), Double-Choc (there is a difference, but I'm not sure what, but the packet is blue instead of brown), and the special Tia Maria Tim-Tams, which I've never had.

I'd be happy to post some if you like - they're only about $2.99 a packet here.

I'm dearly glad I wasn't in that woman's class. I'd have worn brown every single day, just to spite her. I like brown. And it doesn't speak of death and decay more or less than any other colour. Hell, if anything were death-like, it'd be white. Bones, burial shrouds, pale crypt dust clinging to cobwebs, marble angels left to turn to shapeless soap-blobs in the rain...

Bah. Brown's downright lifelike next to that sort of reputation.

That's very true - brown is the colour of soil, which is all about life and growing things. And you get warm golden browns too. I think she was a bit off her head to be honest. I like your case for white much better!

*slurps hangover cure* aaah, cheers! I would pay good money for a temple massage right now:)

I am currently knitting a chocolate brown poncho, with pale pink and blue stripes, so can only agree with your wardrobe choices. Brown and pale pink! Brown and scarlet! Brown and really bright turquoise! All fabulous choices.

Tan, beige, fawn and all those pale browns, however, I will happily ban from the work. So very Tamsin Outhwaite.

So very Tamsin Outhwaite.

Mrreow! *giggles*

I love those colour combinations - brown and pale pink espe cially. But you're absolutly right, it has to be proper rich brown, not Tamsin Outhwaite taupe. I can't do that look at all. Although you can't go far wrong with a lovely warm camel or honey colour, which I would still class in the beige/pale brown colour range.

Your poncho sounds lovely! I wish I could knit. I've been eyeing them in the shops endlessly, but am sad because they just don't suit me (sort of a covered sofa effect beause I have biggish boobs). I might have to go for the crocheted shawl option instead.
